From Better! Cities & Towns:

A CULTURAL TRAIL +

Indianapolis’s Cultural Trail is … a pedestrian and bike trail, yes, but it’s a lot more than that, too, providing a demonstration of green infrastructure for stormwater control, a highly legible guide to some of the city’s most important neighborhoods and assets, and helping spur revitalization and boost property values along the way, all while adding to Indy’s mobility options.

SAFER TRUCKS

.

The European community seems to be taking some fairly progressive steps to stop the carnage.

In a crucial vote on Tuesday 18 March 2014 the European Parliament Transport Committee brought genuinely Safer Urban Lorries (see above) a step closer to becoming a reality on London’s streets.

NEW YVR BIKEPATH

… with an enhanced park.

Path runs from the north end of the No. 2 Road bridge, along the airport fence to glamourous Burkeville. Much better than dicing with high-speed traffic on Russ Baker Way. And connects with much improved Flight Path Park.

AN AMTRAK UPGRADE

A significant improvement over the previous six bike limit for unboxed bikes.

Amtrak’s Cascades trains can now carry ten bikes, a small but potentially trip-saving change for a route that connects some of the continent’s bikiest cities.

That last item is really relevant.  We’re off to Portland by train tomorrow for the Easter weekend (with bicycle) – and back on Tuesday.
