Presented by the Real Estate Foundation of B.C., the Land Awards recognize initiatives that showcase leadership, innovation, and collaboration in sustainable land use in British Columbia.

SOLEfood Farm by SOLEfood Farm

In four years of operation SOLEfood Farm has converted four acres of urban brownfields and vacant parking lots into productive farm sites and provided meaningful, paid employment for 35 people – including residents of the Downtown Eastside.

Ty-histanis Neighbourhood Development by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations


In 2006 Parks Canada transferred 84 hectares of land from Pacific Rim National Park to Esowista Indian Reserve No. 3 since the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations had no more developable land on its reserves…. The First Nation committed to exploring and applying practical, sustainable community development principles to the planning and design of the expanded community.

Rick was the Manager of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (now known as Metro Vancouver) Regional Parks for 25 years (1978-2003) …  Rick spearheaded the expansion of Metro Vancouver Regional Parks from 5,500 acres to 28,600 acres, creating 25 new regional parks and greenways….  Balancing vision with pragmatism, Rick helped build a world-class system of regional parks that has enriched the greater Vancouver area with outdoor recreation, wildlife habitat, cultural and natural heritage.
