Changes Big and Small

June 26, 2013

On a couple of blocks of Robson.

Time again for VIVA Vancouver to close off Robson through the square with another installation, this one following last year’s Pop Rocks.  At noon, the city’s carpenters were bringing the roadway up to sidewalk grade and installing colourful benches and tables.

Details to follow.

A block away, it’s all blue tarps, as both a new corner development at Granville nears completion and the transition to a Nordstrom’s moves forward.

Very attractive but not in the best interests of the 10,000 daily riders of the 5 Robson bus who, yet again, are being sent on a circuitous route to downtown. Transport Action BC has discussed this issue at http://tiny.cc/ybjbzw.

Well I have to say that the carpentry to bring the roadway up to sidewalk grade is a good improvement over last year – however I still mourn the #5 being chopped off at the knees. Makes West EndDowntownYaletown transit connectivity worse than it already is.

Does this patio really need to be in the way of the bus?

I have just dropped at the open house on down town bus, and discovered that the city has also intention to get rid of the bus on Cambie (at Georgia) to transform it as a “public space”…Apparently they have not enough of the QE plaza failure…

This war on bus initiated by the city council, with its army, Viva, occupying the battlefield, has to stop.

Viva which mandate is to “reduce buses on street” should be disbanded, and replaced by an organization supporting “sustainable transportation mode”.

The last picture shows a propos the emergency exit on Robson of the Canada line station:
The city had the opportunity to request from the developer to integrate a full entrance to the canada line at Robson#Granville – the VCC platform is just under Robson, and the station has been designed to allow this eventuality – but obviously such eventuality could have compromised the city agenda for Robson…So you will have to continue walk down Gorgia, and walk back underground toward Robson !
