Something to See

January 17, 2012

They’re called ‘Destination’ videos – and they’re gorgeous.  Typically commissioned by tourism agencies, every single shot is exquisite – because they’re meant to entice, to get you to come to the absolutely perfect place portrayed.  Like Vancouver:

.

They should not be confused with reality.  Here, for instance, is the one for Travel Alberta:

.

The best hi-def, uplifting soundtrack, beautiful people, even more beautiful horses, amazing scenery, panoramas and landscapes in exquisite slo-mo.   Like a too-sumptuous feast, it can be so visually excessive, one is numbed by the end.  And of course, no tar sands.

But as sheer cinematic craftsmanship, it probably doesn’t get better than this.

And although it takes whimsy to the point of absurdity, the scenery in this Native Shoes ad reminds me more of my Vancouver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMvP31D1Q2M
