Shanghaied
April 29, 2011
I’m off to see for myself one of the most remarkable urban transformations in history:
Given the dramatic, jaw-dropping difference between these two images, you might be tempted to think that the top one was taken sometime in the middle of the 20th century. You’d be wrong. That image is from 1990. Shanghai is a stunning example of just how fast cities can rise up into bustling modern metropolises.
I’ll be back mid-May.

Yep, it’s a mixed bag that link. The Dubai transformation is particularly problematic as I can’t imagine that it’s at all sustainable. The Bangkok image shows promise, but the double-deck roads are a step backward.
Mike’s link gave my computer a virus…
Mine too actually. I haven’t been able to use my computer since. I wouldn’t recommend clicking on it.
That’s a big drag. I’m a Machead, maybe that’s why I didn’t notice a problem.
Ugh vista. I should switch. I have to reset my operating system.
