MAPPING BIKEABILITY: A planning tool to support healthy travel
Meghan Winters will present research from the UBC Cycling in Cities project, where they have created a map of “bikeability“. She’ll show how a measure for bikeability was created, and how the maps can be used to suggest local strategies to improve conditions for cycling.
Her presentation on Bikeability and the regular Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition Van/UBC Committee meeting are scheduled for Wednesday April 27th at ING Direct, 466 Howe Street on the NE corner of Howe and Pender. BYOC (cup) as ING Direct is providing coffee and tea.
Feel free to join the monthly Van/UBC Advocacy Committee meeting from 6:45-7:30 or just come for Meghan’s presentation from 7:30-8:45.
CYCLING MAP OF SURREY
Surprised that Surrey even has a cycling map? Shame on you – this is the second version.
Okay, a lot of the routes are on arterials and in shared traffic – but the most notable thing about the system is that it is one – that is, an actual network, not just a bunch of disconnected lines on a map, noting mainly recreational paths. Over time, Surrey will be able to develop a functional and safer system based on the vision expressed here.
