London at 80 gigs

November 23, 2010

It’s one of the richest panoramas in the world: it’s London at 80 gigapixels.

This shot by Jeffrey Martin at 360Cities comes with all kinds of features: thumbnails of landmarks that are zoomed into when clicked, a map that locates them and automatically shows you the angle of view, a stop/start tour – and probably more that I haven’t discovered.

But best of all – and the whole point, really – is the incredible density of the image.

How good?  Well, here’s the British Museum:

Can you see the crowd of people out front?  Here are a few them when you zoom in to full max:

Will it certainly is impressive it’s not nearly the richest. At least if you are speaking in terms of Gigapixels. There was one of Rio in Brazil at 100 Gigapixels a while back, there are now mutliples over that mark as well.

Showing people in great detail from that distance is a little creepy though.
