So you think you know Vancouver neighbourhoods? Thanks to the latest issue of Vancouver Magazine’s City Guide, we can compare stats. Here’s the first of a periodic comparison. See how you do.
Of the following neighbourhoods, which one has the lowest median household income?
- Yaletown
- Coal Harbour
- Cambie Village
- South Granville

Yaletown – $81,737
Cambie Village – $81,246
South Granville – $65,388
And surprisingly, Coal Harbour – $63,385

Empty nesters / retirees and/or absentee owners who do not earn income in Canada could be the cause of the seemingly starnge statistic (i.e. when compared to property cost/value).

is it just in the print edition then? Gosh, I might actually have to pick up a real, paper magazine.
If the income is based on returns from recent years, the medians would reflect tax-loss selling and capital losses of equities during the recession. The snapshot figures aren’t valuable unless other years – say 2006/7 – are contrasted.
The figures may simply show that one ‘hood works hard, the other, smart.
