Victoria And Vancouver: Gateways to Canada

A 1936 travelogue by the ‘Voice of the Globe,’  James Fitzpatrick.

After a tour of that most-cliched little town Victoria, enjoy Vancouver’s beautiful parks and gardens, the pollution of False Creek, and a highlight of the trip – the Harding Memorial.

  1. No trip to Vancouver would be complete without a trip to the Warren G. Harding Memorial :)

Until RMN he was probably considered by history to be the most corrupt president of the 20th century; who happend to die a week or so after his visit as the first US president to visit Vancouver

  2. There’s lots of old Vancouver video on YouTube….

Since Yesterday (Part 1 of 4… transit related) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I10QE2GUns

No “Gordon Price Music” signs; no relation I presume.

  3. A nice view of a former time, … kind of like one of those E J Hughes paintings.

Where is that Harding memorial, I hadn’t heard of it before? Maybe there should be one for Bill Clinton since he visited several times.

  4. That’s a fantastic film. I imagine it must be one of the first good quality colour films of Victoria.

Ross Crockford has the definitive list of U.S. Presidents that have visited Victoria here:
