Bike-rack typography

August 19, 2009

How many different versions of the letter “A” can typographers come up with?  An infinite number, apparently.  I’m always amazed how many variations are possible, how designers never run out of originality, whether designing typefaces, chairs – or bike racks.

Latest evidence: the Dutch are doing a public survey of  bike rack design by installing 19 different racks in the Raamplein.  Here are three:

See the collection here (though the text is in Dutch).  Thanks to Todd Van Hulzen.

The coolest one, without a doubt, is the one with the built-in bike pump. Even though the first question an Amsterdammer asks is “Is it a-hole proof?”
