Embedding Youtube

November 24, 2007

Okay, I need help.

Youtube used to have a button that would automatically embed a video in a blog, along with a little TV screen to click on.

Must have been too easy.  They took it away.

Now, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to embed the link, little TV screen included, in my blog.  I copy the embedding data and recopy in the code mode on my blog – but no success.  I must be missing something.

Advice, anyone?

I just blogged a test/ response to your question. I can’t embed YouTube videos at all (never have been able to), but I can still link to them. Maybe this helps: if you click on the right sidebar next to the video, in the window that says “about this video” or that gives more info on who posted it to YouTube, you’ll see a link to “more.” If you click that, the url for the video becomes visible (it’s now hidden for some reason, although the “embed” link is prominently displayed).

So, for example, you can then hyperlink text that links to the video, which means you don’t get the pretty embedded graphic, but at least a working link.

There’s an ‘embed’ link to the right of every video, which is the code for you to paste into your site/blog post.. You can even alter the settings to change the colour of the frame & control bar on your site.

    More on it here:

And specifically regarding posting on a wordpress blog:

Make certain your are trying to embed it in the Code tab and not the Visual tab in WordPress. Just grab the embed code from YouTube and drop it in the Code tab of the Write New Post page in WordPress

As per my response to Doug on my blog, using the Code tab doesn’t fix the problem for me, so it might not do you any good either. But take a look at the link Doug left on my comments board to Tiny MCE Advanced laptop tips, for a plug-in that might be useful to you.

Since you use WordPress like I do, just look to the place where you upload pictures. There is a tab there called video. You just paste the URL into that box and it inserts the code it needs at the cursor location. Easy
